| | Pro Evolution Soccer is by far the greatest football game the world has ever seen; so great that the
best real-life players in the world accept no substitute. 'Pro Evo' or 'PES' has been growing in
strength since the series began in 1996, both in critical acclaim and with its burgeoning fan base.
Eight years on, and the series is closer to playing real football than ever with a new dribbling
system, weighted passes and shots using the sensitivity of analogue buttons, player-specific skills
and animations, plus a referee seen patrolling the turf that is arguably more intelligent than you'll
meet in real life!
As the name suggests, PES is a constantly evolving project, handled with utmost dedication from the
development team headed by Shingo 'Seabass' Takatsuka in Tokyo, Japan. Their understanding of the
game really shines through in PES4. There's improved artificial intelligence, instigating improved
awareness for players on the pitch, plus the on-the-ball control is closer than ever. You'll certainly
notice the difference between the world's finest players compared to their more workmanlike peers.
Tactically PES is beyond compare, and the new version introduces alternative free kick and penalty
options, and a deadly offside trap on which to capitalise. You can create more chances while on the
ball too using precision control over your pace. One-on-ones with the keeper are now laden with
striking options to keep the goalie guessing.
Konami has licensed official club teams, with 56 official kits and sponsors spread across Holland,
Spain, and Italy. Fans of Juventus, Inter or AC Milan, plus Real Madrid, Valencia, along with Ajax,
PSV Eindhoven are among those represented in all their finery. Altogether there are 136 club teams
from around the world, plus 50 national teams. Which means a total of 4,500 of the world's greatest
players are included - many of whom have photo-realistic likenesses.
Arguably the crowning glory of PES is Master League, the player/manager mode that lets you develop
a fledgling squad from lowest division zeroes to world-conquering heroes. Master League now
features a new 'best eleven' option, allowing you to save your greatest teams for posterity. Players
must also retire if they suffer serious injury, forcing you to work around the loss of key team
members.
